It all began
With the summer that would not end.
November came and went,
The trees all held on to their leaves.
(They knew what we couldn't see.)
We were still dancing for rain
When our sacred lake dried up
On Christmas day.
We watched the mud,
Bake in the sun, turn bone dry.
We too had only sand to cry.
We stood in my backyard,
and watched as all the trees,
one by one,
gave up their ghost and crashed to earth.
I closed my eyes,
Saw the thing that I cannot name.
I opened my eyes,
You'd seen the same.
Though the storm clouds may gather
And the sky may turn gray,
But it's not gonna rain.
No, it's not gonna...
It's been 4 years now
Since the sky last opened up.
We always hear thunder in the distance,
But it never, ever rains.
I've been enduring great pain to secure what is mine,
While somewhere across the greatest divide,
The old king in the high chair just answers all my prayers,
"You can't understand, but everything's going as planned."
Forget about seasons,
Your forecast is hot dry,
Forget al your reasons,
Just believe without wondering why.
You could go on fighting forever, or you could simply concede.
We've been winning this war now for centuries, your rebellion is a childish dream.
Just a grain of sand next to the mountain, or the stars at the dawn of the day.
All your seconds they add up to nothing, you're destined to death, disease, and decay.
They hung a man at high noon today,
Some rebel with something to say.
They screamed, "Try and fight us
And you, too, will die this way."

The Void
04:12
|
|||
My God,
How their armies have grown.
See, they've covered that whole shore
With soldiers so young,
All dying to get their first kill,
Taste their first blood.
See, they're trained from day one
To stare into the eyes of their dying enemy,
And feel nothing at all.
How do you fight that?
"What would you call yourself?"
The Void whispers to me.
I've seen this coming for such a long time now,
My whole fucking life, if I'm being honest.
It's like every moment before this one was a lie,
Or a joke, or just a pretext for something much bigger.
So tonight we'll fight all we can, but by sunrise tomorrow
We'll probably all be face to face with The Void.
So say your prayers, and make your peace, boys.
We're in for a long night.
"What will you call yourself?"
The Void whispers to me.

Never Tell Anyone
04:58
|
|||
I've had the same dream
Every night since you've been gone,
I'll never tell anyone.
You and I stand
At the edge of time,
And as we throw our last two coins in,
Our bodies disappear,
And we're lighter than air,
And we float just like ghosts on the wind.
Every morning
I feel the same the same thing,
Like cement poured back into myself.
My body it helps me
Forget the dream by sunrise
When the earth is scorched by the sun.
So I'll never tell anyone.

Tap, Tap, Tap
04:47

The Orphan Prince sits,
Ponders the power of his fingertips
As mysterious figures file past his window.
Glorious snows fall
From the Heavens
On the mountains,
Both just beyond his reach.
And in overwhlemed confusion
He begins to list
All those things that he canot understand.
On the one hand he counts the words
He's always tried but still can't define:
Death, war, love, happiness and time.
On the other hand he counts
The times he's demanded the world explain.
But the world keeps quiet,
Doesn't tell him a thing.
On his 21st birthday
He watched the world fail
To hold its own.
He watched his father trip
Down the
Steps of Infinity
After he tangled up his feet
In his own demands.
So now here he stands
In his hour of waiting.
He's watching the sky,
Still expecting a reason.
Oh, but nature declines to apologize
For keeping her secrets,
Only pushes the answers under
Deeper and darker shadows.
What's dead's not dead forever
And only could return.
On the wings born from the scars of his sunburn
He uncovers by chance what the Angels had to earn:
As he started tap, tap, tapping his fingers against the window pane,
Trying to find a way to get out to the place he began.
He started tap, tap, tapping his fingers against the game,
Trying to find out what that Secret was so he could give it a name.
Only by tap, tap, tapping his fingers against his pain
Did he find that it was not time but he who was actually to blame.
Only by tap, tap, tapping his fingers against the rain
Did he find that nothing ended, it just started again.
Only by tap, tap, tapping his fingers against his brain
Did he find being and knowing were exactly the same.
Only by tap, tap, tapping his fingers against the window pane,
Did he find that the way to get out was back the way that he'd came.
Only by tap, tap, tapping...

Time out of mind.
Lately I find myself growing old.
Another endless summer, gone cold.
I've stopped trying to fight momentum,
I just close my eyes,
Land where I'm rolled.
I've got time, so much time.
Sons rise up quick
And each young prince will be
King for a day.
But then comes the Great Sunset,
When emporer and empire together all just
Fade away.
Even the Sunset is nervous,
Knows that not even He
Will always remain.
I've got time, so much time.
I've got so much time on my hands.
Free at last, free at last.
Thank the Lord, I'm free at last.
Got myself free from a name, free from an age,
Free from a future, got myself freed from a past.
(How long does nirvana last?)
Yesterday, I knew you,
Knew you were nothing more than a half-handed dream.
Tomorrow, you were never there, you were never there at all, you were nothing but a mad man's scheme.
(For the circle can only repeat.)
I've got time, so much time.
I've got all the time in the world.
Lifetimes, lifetimes pass me by, let them pass me by.
I'm not worried, let them pass me by, let them pass me by.
An angelic flash of light exposes the corners of my mind to me,
As the sound of a thousand epiphanies cascades across geopgraphy.
Then a resounding silence as clenched eyelids finally relent,
They acknowledge the dawn, and the alignment of divine intent.
The moment is reversed again, and, unable to break the chain,
The Sun surrenders His position as the dead-center of Everything.
As the body, the soul, and the question go numb,
I can feel myself becoming that which was never begun.
And I stand in the Light of the Shade of the Sun,
As all things once separate fade into The One.

Economy is a Monster
04:44
|
|||
I had a dream that I was lost,
The dark wind carried me home.
So I wake on a dirt floor to sounds of war,
Face the painful facts once more:
Economy is a monster.
I'm feeding all my loving to my mother,
But she's still not feeling any better.
God, could you let us have some water?
Because money's tight and water ain't cheap these days.
I've got a gunny sack full of black magic
Don't use no guns on our late-night runs
When we wait for the sunset,
Do our dimestore dance back to the
Hazy days, the lazy days, days
Never lost to slumber.
When gods grieve for fall's leaves
Dancing circles, we remember:
A brother, a shared history,
A common struggle,
On a midnight run to kill the sun,
Fill the bucket for our mother.
We're exposed here,
We should just keep moving, friend.
I'll see you sometime when the
Sun's shine has been
Blocked by the earth again.
Fight on.

Sounds of the New Nature

8. |

So, so.
Tomorrow watches and waits for me,
Watches me asking
My wristwatch complacently for more.
Oh, the sting that the day brings
And this ringing in my ears.
I've watched
Time's lazy arrow through the years.
I've watched the way it moves, the way it breathes,
Trying to find a weakness,
Trying to see if I can beat it.
Oh, my grandfather dreams in the den,
I hear him tick-tock in his sleep as I walk
Out the front door.
I take a deep breath of the darkness
As I step into the night,
My body bathed in stillness,
That heaven's golden light.
I see clearly through the darkness,
As I look up to the sky.
I see a pattern in the stars
And I do not wonder why,
Wonder why.
I keep
Tripping on the stepping stone,
Pushing myself but I won't go.
Tell myself I think I know,
But too much sunlight, nothing grows.
The harder I try capturing
This moment just fracturing,
Till I'm left holding an empty case
Of empty time and empty space.
I face the world accordingly,
I play the game, but knowingly!
Deliberately acknowledging
Each echo of infinity.
For truth is told to those who've heard,
Who've found The Word despite the words:
Within each self, the void, it turns,
Where all things come from and all returns.
As November rolls around again,
I hear the question on the wind.
It asks, "Have you learned you lesson yet?
Or haven't you been listening?"

Sun Wins
05:26
|
|||
Sun doesn't fight fair,
Always teams up with the earth and the air.
When summer comes around
This time we won't be found,
We're going to where the ozone is thin.
Our old king waves goodnight,
Leaves us with the promise of a new life.
When the stars all sail away, we'll all know what to say,
We'll say, "We've come so far, now there's nowhere left to run."
When I was a man,
Just a shadow
Across the dusty plain.
But I was eclipsed
When the sun and the horizon met.
And you, you are my last great love.
And you, you will outlive us all.
You'll come back home when all the work's been done,
You'll tell great stories about all you've been,
The sunset in your eyes.
And I'll know what you don't say.
And you, you'll know too.
When they all hit the ground when the sun goes down
We can know what we know with no one else around.
But the sun will win again.
(And again, and again, and again...)
When I was a man,
I was stranded on a land-locked shore.
But now I've boarded that ship and I'll never return.
But if the days get shorter and the nights get colder,
The sun stops shining and the rain stops falling,
Then I think we'll meet again.
No, I know someday, we're gonna meet again.

God's Time : Now
06:38
|
|||
But now...
I'm a frozen figure, or a statuette to made-time.
And I watch as all the ghosts
Gallop off.
Their fingers are broken from tapping the earth
At every passing dream.
But I know I am not alone out here.
And if my time's tomorrow,
Then time will have to fight me.
If we never ever see the sun again,
It's alright with me, if it's alright with you.
For we are God's time now.
I've kissed my fading happenstance,
Realized what happens if I don't come back.
But if everyone's pretending,
It seems that I ought to too.
As I watch their souls flee,
Agonizing, berating their bodies for the loss,
It seems that I am not all alone out here.
And if my time's tomorrow,
Then time will have to fight me.
If we never ever see the sun again,
It's alright with me, if it's alright with you.
For we are, God's time now.
